President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has been taken to the cleaners by members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) over what they claim is deception and willful cause of financial loss to the state.

The NDC Members are accusing the President of having promised Ghanaians particularly those in the three regions of the north some dams, in each District to help address issues of food insecurity.

The 1D1V project is supposed to support rural farmers undertake dry season farming to improve food security in the region.

There have been reports in recent times however of the destruction of some of the dams under this project. A visit to one of the dams in Kajelo in the Upper East in April this year revealed that the high water levels from a downpour, knocked down and washed away the central portion of the dam wall creating a split and leaving behind a fragile structure.

In a statement dated June 9 and signed by party Communicator, Sammy Gyamfi, the NDC ‘bashed’ the President for having used the flagship program as a ‘deception tactic’ to woo the affection of the electorate prior to the 2016 elections.

According to them, the quality of the dams constructed particularly in the Upper East region can only best be described as ‘dugouts or excavated ponds’.

“Aside from the fact that these excavated ponds and dugouts are not serving any meaningful purpose, most of them have become death traps and continue to claim precious lives in the various communities they are located in. Others have already been washed away by the rains due to the weak embankment walls constructed around them. The chiefs and people in some of these communities have not hidden their frustration at these poorly-constructed “Dams” which in actual fact, amount to a betrayal of their trust”, portions of the statement read.
