1D1F not limited to new companies – Alan Kyeremanten

Minister for Trade and Industry, Alan Kyeremanten, has said that the One District One Factory (1D1F) initiative is not limited to only new factories but rather building on some existing ones.

Alan Kyeremanten explained that the policy is not solely for the government to set up state enterprises but a channel to strengthen public-private partnership through industrialization.

“The ID1F policy is not meant for government to establish state enterprises. It is led by the private sector but led by government,” he explained.

Kyeremanten made these remarks at the maiden edition of Results Fair organized held at the Accra International Conference Centre (AICC), under the auspices of the Ministry for Monitoring and Evaluation.

The minister further noted there was nothing wrong with categorizing existing companies under the policy.

However, based on speculations that government institutions were exempted from the programme, he described the notion as a ‘misunderstanding’ on the part of Ghanaians.

In his words, “It (1D1F) consists of both existing and new enterprises… Are you suggesting that if a company that is located in a district that has potential and is doing well and requires support, we should not support that company but rather proceed to create a new one? No, I don’t think so.”

In August 2017, government introduced its flagship One District One Factory policy to equip districts across the nation own manufacturing companies relative to their well-endowed resources as well as having the capacity to provide jobs and wealth for the country.
