2019 AFCON: Boateng takes a swipe at Black Stars after shock exit

Former Barcelona player Kevin Prince Boateng has mocked the Black Stars of Ghana following their exit from the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt at the Round of 16.

Ghana bowed out of the competition on Monday after losing 5-4 on penalties to the Carthage Eagles of Tunisia after the match had ended 1-1 in regulation time at the Ismailia Stadium.

“No PRINCE no PARTY #GhanaBlackStars #AFCON” he tweeted on Tuesday.

The 32-year-old midfielder has been on indefinite suspension from the national team since the 2014 World Cup debacle in Brazil.

Ahead of the tournament, there were calls for his inclusion in the team but Coach Kwasi Appiah, who had earlier said his doors were opened to the player, stood his ground that Boateng should satisfy a condition imposed by the Ghana Football Association to officially apologise for his actions.

Boateng has headed back to Sassuolo after Barcelona refused to activate their option to buy after a six-month loan.

He made a big impact in the Serie A with five goals and an assist in 15 competitive games which earned him a dream winter move to Barcelona, but Boateng ended up playing a total 123 minutes of football at Barcelona

He has returned to the Mapei Stadium after the Blaugrana refused to activate their €8m option to buy.
