About twenty-five (25) beneficiaries of the Youth in Afforestation program and two Officers of the Forestry Commission in Fanteakwa North District of the Eastern Region have been involved in a near-fatal accident
The accident occurred Monday, October14, 2019.
A Kia Might Truck with registration Number GY 2234-13 transporting the beneficiaries for a tree planting exercise was reportedly shoved into a ditch by a Rhino Truck fully loaded with onions which recklessly overtook another vehicle in a sharp curve along the Begoro to Obooho road.
The staff reportedly fell off from the bucket of the Kia Truck.
Two Officers of the Forestry Commission in Begoro upon hearing about the accident rushed to the scene on motorbike but were crashed by a falling tree on the road.
The two injured officers and the 25 Youth in Aforestation beneficiaries were all rushed to the Begoro District Hospital.
The Begoro District Forest Manager, Kwame Oteng Awuah told Starr News, apart from two victims referred to the Regional Hospital in Koforidua, the rest have been treated and discharged.
Meanwhile, efforts are underway by the Police to arrest the suspect driver in charge of the Rhino Truck now on the run.
