AFCON 2019: We won’t let it slide; appear before Select Committee – Woyome tells Sports Ministry
Ranking Member on the Sports Committee of Parliament, Kwabena Woyome says the Youth and Sports Minister ought to appear before the Select Committee to give a breakdown of the 4.5 million dollar expenditure for the campaign of the Senior National Team, Black Stars during the just ended 2019 AFCON tournament in Egypt.
Sports Minister, Isaac Asiamah has said Ghana spent 4.5 million dollars during this year’s AFCON tournament in Egypt.
Also an amount of $6.3 million was budgeted for the entire tournament.
The Sports Minister made the disclosure before the House on Wednesday.
The Minister further disclosed the Normalization committee has been tasked to produce a comprehensive report on the poor performance of the Senior National team in the tournament for reforms to be made.
But Speaking on Anopa Kaapa on Kasapa 102.5 Fm, Mr Woyome said for the sake of clarity the Minister must appear before the committee to respond to the germane questions the public has raised vis a vis the details of the said Budget.
” Now that we’ve come back and the presentation eventually got done yesterday on the floor of parliament after pushing harder, the figures quoted by the Minister appears quite colossal, but has not spoken much because he’s given nine cost centres in the 4.5 million dollar expenditure. What he did was bulking all the expenditure and giving us total…what will make it clearer for all of us to even give a better debate on this which is so key and important is allocating how much was allotted to each of the cost centres he mentioned in his briefing yesterday.
“…People are demanding answers to questions that is why the committee has written inviting the Minister to come before the committee so that we can continue with our oversight for and on behalf the people of this country so that there will be openness and transparency.
