We reproduce for readers a passionate appeal to current, inactive and old members of the Asantemankuo of Columbus, Ohio, USA:
Dear Brothers and Sisters of Asantemankuo:
Please receive greetings from all of us.
The Executive of our noble Association recently constituted us, the undersigned, as the Asantemankuo Membership Drive Taskforce. Among other things, we are to contact every member of the Association to enkindle in them love for the Association and energize them to participate more in Asantemankuo’s aims and objectives, meetings and all activities. It is for these reasons that we have jointly sent you this letter.
We all know that the Asantemankuo of Columbus was formed for the purpose of fostering unity, friendship and support among ourselves. It was formed with the clear understanding that “no man is an island,” and that we depend on one another for our very survival. Therefore, as men and women who have left our larger, traditional families back home in Ghana, there was the urgent need to find another “family” here in the United States. Asantemankuo was, and, is still the answer.
Each of us in Asantemankuo has his or her talents. These gifts and talents complement each other, and that all of them work together for the benefit of the community. We need all these gifts on board. Our individual success, therefore, is not complete unless it is linked with the collective success of others. This is the basis of our coming together. What we cannot achieve as individuals, we can quickly do when we work together in unity. Hence, our motto: “Unity is our Strength.”
We made a significant initial investment in our membership when we joined Asantemankuo. Clearly, the benefits of our membership are far much greater than our exit from it. Let us, therefore, not allow some human failings that we may have to draw us away from one another and from this noble organization. Please let us work together to move Asantemankuo forward irrespective of past problems, disappointments and disaffections. Let us return to Asantemankuo and make a difference. Let us embrace our traditional hospitality, show kindness and empathy for one another by deepening our love for Asantemankuo.
We still meet every last Saturday of the month at the Holy Resurrection Church, 4611 Glenmawr Avenue, Columbus, Ohio 43224 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. We hope to see you. Please contact us for more information: President (614) 432-9585; Membership Drive Taskforce (862) 220-5886.
Thank you for your time, and Long Live Asantemankuo of Columbus, Ohio!
Sincerely yours,
George Adusei-Bonsu Harriet Blankson Dorcas Frimpong
