Ask Nana Akua Tweneboah-Koduah
The on-going Supreme Court petition case in which the NPP is challenging the results of the 2012 Presidential Election entered Day 28 without the presence of the first petitioner, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, who was flown out of the country to the United Kingdom (UK) under mysterious circumstances on Tuesday night.
As a result, Nana Akufo-Addo, the former flagbearer of the NPP was conspicuously missing at the Supreme Court (SC) when sitting resumed on Wednesday June 5.
The reason assigned by a statement issued by Nana Akufo-Addo’s Press Aide, Mr Herbert Krapa, did not help matters when he stated that he left with his wife Rebecca, to the UK for “scheduled engagements including his regular medical check-up”.
Scheduled engagements? I bet this is a statement that would raise a lot of eyebrows in the political circles. How can Akufo-Addo leave the SC proceedings mid-stream to attend to scheduled engagements? How can somebody who is so sure in his dreams that he was cheated out of the presidential election suddenly bolt the court proceedings to attend to other scheduled engagements abroad?
Which scheduled engagement in this whole wild word is far more important to Nana Akufo-Addo and the NPP than the SC petition case in which Akufo-Addo is seriously seeking the help of the nine justices of the SC to invalidate the results of over 4 million Ghanaians in order to pave the way for him to become the president of Ghana?
Yet, the NPP want to throw dust into the eyes of Ghanaians by refusing to disclose what might have led to Akufo-Addo’s swift flight from Ghana to the UK.
Another interesting but suspicious part of the statement issued by Krapa was that Nana Akufo-Addo was also going for his regular medical check-up. I still cannot believe that Nana Akufo-Addo can now go for a regular medical check-up abroad when this same man and his NPP supporters berated the late President John Atta Mills when he went for regular medical check-ups in the United States.
The NPP folks who saw everything wrong with President Mills’ check-ups lambasted him for ignoring the services of Ghanaian doctors to go abroad. It is in this vein that former President John Kufuor took a swipe at President Mills by undergoing a spinal surgery at the Cardiothoracic Unit of the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital in Accra. Even though it was claimed that the surgery went well, those who see President Kufuor can testify that he still have pains walking and sitting upright.
There are many speculations currently going on as to the true state of Akufo-Addo’s health, with some claiming that the way he was whisked away from prying eyes and the reasons assigned to his supposed medical check-up do not add up. It smacks very suspicious and leaves many questions unanswered.
Some are asking why Akufo-Addo could not do a simple check-up in Accra but has to fly to the UK at a time that his counsel, Philip Addison is questioning Dr Afari Gyan, his former roommate at the University of Ghana, who he has accused of stealing the election from him.
Others are also wondering why the NPP think everything they do is right whilst that of others are always so wrong. For instance why would they question President Mills’ medical check-ups abroad and sanction that of Nana Akufo-Addo? Do we have two sets of standards here?
And there are others who also believe that Nana Akufo-Addo may have suffered a mild heart attack due to the anger that has been seething through him in court for the bad performance of his lawyers.
In one instance last week, Akufo-Addo threw every caution to the wind by attacking Philip Addison for not raising enough objections to Mr James Quarshie-Idun’s cross-examination of Mr Johnson Asiedu Nketia, who was presenting his evidence in chief for President Mahama and the NDC.
If indeed Akufo-Addo is attending other pressing engagements we wish him well, but if that engagements have to do with his health concerns, then we wish him speedy recovery since he has to be in good health to sit through at the SC to receive the judgment of his floundering case.
