The Member of Parliament for Assin Central in the Central Region, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, has tasked the Bureau of National Investigations (BNI) to arrest the rejected Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Assin North, Antwi Boasiako, for ‘chopping’ his Common Fund money totaling GHc66,488 which was public money meant for development projects to be initiated by the MP.

The MCE was rejected outright by the Assin Municipal Assembly in a vote to confirm his re-appointment by the president. However, the Assin Central MP who was the incumbent MP for the Assin North constituency until it was divided into Assin Central and Assin North, was accusing the MCE, the municipal coordinating director and the finance officer at the assembly of colluding to ‘chop’ public funds.

According to him, his share of the Common Fund from 2008 to 2012 which had been lodged in an account at the Agricultural Development Bank at Assin Fosu, was to be used for development programmes. But the MCE, for political reasons, frustrated him in getting access to the funds to initiate projects and when he went to check on the money last Monday, it had been squandered.

“When doctors in public hospitals went on strike, I personally wrote to the MCE to release GH¢30,000 out of the amount to the authorities of the Catholic Hospital at Assin Fosu to cater for nursing mothers and patients who come there without NHIS, but the MCE refused to do that, not knowing he had an ulterior motive”.

He said if the BNI refused to arrest the MCE, he would organise people to arrest him and hand him over to the BNI for prosecution.

He added that the looting of state money by officials of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) had become very intolerable and that Ghanaians must watch out to avert a collapse of the economy by the NDC government.

According to him, the MCE used the new NDC Member of Parliament for Assin North as a conduit and spent the money which was meant for development projects, in his name.

“These monies were released in my name for development projects so how can some greedy government officials spend the money in the name of a new member of Parliament who took office this year since no common fund has been released this year for MPs?” he questioned.
