Bagbin Pours Venom on Sekyi Hughes

Majority Leader, Hon Alban Sumana Bagbin, has poured venom on Right Honorable Ebenezer Sakyi Hughes, former Speaker of Parliament, for what he described as misleading statements about furnishings in his home.

In an attempt to justify why he swept his official residence clean of very expensive furnishings including generators totaling more than four billion old cedis, Begyina Sekyi Hughes was reported to have said that Hon. Bagbin also took money from the State to furnish his home. The Parliamentary Service Board has since been grappling with what decision to take on the behavior of the Former Speaker, amidst calls for his prosecution. But in a latest twist of events, the Former Speaker was reported to have said that even Alban Bagbin took money from the State in place of furnishings.

In a sharp response on the Citi Prime News, Alban Bagbin minced no words in describing the Former Speaker as clinging unto anything to extricate himself from the claws of the law. “It is a blatant lie, and I think the Speaker is really confused, he has caused a mess and I think that he should fry in his own steam. He cannot try to hang on any straw when he is drowning. There was no such payment at all to the members of the leadership”.

Alban Bagbin obviously angered at the statement attributed to the Former Speaker disclosed to Citi news that for all the years that he was in Parliament, he never occupied any government Bungalow. He said he lives in his private residence on the outskirts of Accra. He admitted though there were some benefits he got from the state but they were nothing compared to what the former Speaker had taken. "I’m surprised that the Speaker, instead of coming out to apologise to the nation for what he has done, is rather trying to justify it and trying to hang on anything, but unfortunately, there is nothing for him to hang on” Alban Bagbin is therefore calling for a thorough investigation and is suggesting that the Police take over the investigations.
