Bawumia listened to calls to make NAPO his running mate, he will be a listening president - UG researcher

A Development Economist and Senior Research Fellow at the Centre for Social Policy Studies (CSPS) at the University of Ghana, Dr. George Domfe, has shed light on Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia's leadership approach, emphasising his capacity to listen and respond to the desires of the people.

According to Dr. Domfe, the NPP presidential candidate’s choice was heavily influenced by the feedback from members of the party, whom he actively engaged before selecting Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, popularly known as NAPO, as his running mate for the upcoming December elections

"Vice President Bawumia listened attentively to the voices within the NPP, numerous research works, including those conducted by our centre and other research groups, consistently indicated strong support for Dr. Matthew Opoku-Prempeh among party members."

Dr. Domfe underscored the significance of this decision, suggesting it provides a glimpse into Bawumia's leadership style should he ascend to the presidency.

"He will be a listening president, his responsiveness to the desires of the party's base in selecting NAPO demonstrates his commitment to understanding and addressing the concerns of ordinary Ghanaians."

Reflecting on the electoral implications, Dr. Domfe praised Bawumia's strategic move in choosing a running mate from the Ashanti Region.

"The Ashanti Region has historically played a crucial role in securing electoral victories for the NPP, in the 2020 elections, the region significantly bolstered the party's fortunes, and Vice President Bawumia's decision underscores its strategic importance in the party's electoral strategy,” he said.
