Black Meteors defender Edward Sarpong has revealed that his mum and sisters can no longer go to the market because he missed the final penalty kick against South Africa in the just ended U23 AFCON in Egypt.

The 22-year old says his sisters have turned victims of verbal assault while his mum can’t trade in the market because they are known are his family members and they are attacked always when they come out.

The young chap says his family has been overly traumatized after he missed the decisive spot kick and has apologised to Ghanaians, his entire team mates and coaches to forgive him.

“I’ve been insulted massively in my area and it has even affected my family.

“When my sisters go out they are verbally attacked because everyone in our area knows they are my sisters.

“My mum can’t go out because anytime she comes out she’s insulted and she was even scared.

“She asked me not to even go out again because she felt people will attack me,” he revealed in an interview with Adom FM.

The young left back believes it’s a risk he took because no one in the team was prepared to go for the kick and that Ghanaians should pardon him.

Ghana missed out on the Tokyo 2020 Olympics following the penalty miss and their 15 years wait to appear at the tournament will be extended to 20 years as their next chance to ho to the Olympics will be in 2024.
