Black Stars winning bonus still $5,000 – Liaison team
The Spokesperson of the FIFA and CAF Liaison Team, Dan Kwaku Yeboah, says the winning bonus for the senior national male team, Black Stars remains unchanged at $5000 per player.
The Stars will be regrouping to prepare for an away match against Kenya in the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers for the 2019 competition and talks about the bonuses have resurfaced.
The Black Stars were previously earning $10,000 as winning bonus, but that was slashed by 50 percent when the ruling government, New Patriotic Party, assumed office, with the Ministry of Youth and Sports explaining that the former amount was over stretching the national coffers.
With current development in Ghana football where the Ghana Football Association is on its way out and a two-man FIFA-CAF Liaison team set up to temporarily supervise activities of the national teams, as a fallout of Anas Amereyaw Anas' Number 12 expose on June 6, there has been speculation that the Stars' bonuses could be further slashed.
However Dan Kwaku Yeboah, in an interview with Oyerepa FM insisted it will be maintained.
"The players will be given $5,000 as winning bonus. The government has made it clear to us (Liaison team) that the players will be given a cheque of cedi equivalent to the amount ($5,000) but the only physical cash the players will receive is the per diem," he said.
Though the Stars traveled to Japan and Iceland to play international friendlies when the saga began, this is the first time they are regrouping under the new arrangement and thus, there will be no management team.
The Black Stars will camp in Ethiopia, Addis Ababa before they move to Kenya for their second group game in the qualifying campaign.
Ghana beat Ethiopia 5-0 in their opening game to top Group F with three points, same as Sierra Leone who are in second place, after beating Kenya.
Kenya and Ethiopia are in third and fourth place respectively without a point.
