Bono public policy institute commends security agencies for Canadian girls rescue

The Bono Public Institute has commended the National Security and the Bureau of National Investigations BNI for using state resources and state intelligent assets to rescue the two Canadian girls that were kidnapped in the Ashanti region on June 4, 2019.

“BPPI believes the success achieved in rescuing the Canadian girls proves the efficiency and, effectiveness of Ghana’s national system. You have proven beyond all doubts and given us the assurance that Ghanaians are safe and that our nation and its territories are highly secured from criminals and terrorists,” a leading member of the Institute, Adu Koranteng said in a statement.

The Institute said with the feat chalked by the country’s security services, they were in no doubt that the country was safe.

“We, therefore, congratulate you for proving to the world that you are capable of managing Ghana’s national security issues and urge you to continue to take charge of other kidnapping related cases, especially the Takoradi kidnapped girls.

We know you are reliable, strong and capable of handling such delicate security issues. Since 1957 you have protected the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ghana and we believe you will continue with the good work,” the statement said.

Kidnap

The two Canadian girls who were kidnapped in the Ashanti Regional capital Kumasi last week, were rescued on June 12, 2019, by the Bureau of National Investigations and the Counter-terrorism unit of the National Security. Nine suspected Kidnappers were arrested in the process and airlifted to Accra. Six of the suspects played key roles in the crime whereas three others played auxiliary roles.

Among the key suspects are three Nigerians and six Ghanaians. It was gathered that the driver of the vehicle used for the kidnapping who is a mechanic and one other person were first to have been arrested and led the security personnel to arrest the others.

The entire operation was executed by a team of professional security officials drawn from the Bureau of National Investigations and the counter-terrorism squad.
