CPP puts on hold filing of nominations following court injunction

The Convention Peoples Party (CPP) has suspended the filing of nominations and all other activities towards the party’s National Delegates Congress scheduled for March 28 due to a court injunction.

The acting General Secretary of the CPP, James Kwabena Bomfeh Junior, confirmed that it was as a result of a writ of summons filed on February 26, at the High Court general jurisdiction division against the Acting National Chairperson, Hajia Hamdatu Ibrahim Haruna and the Acting General Secretary, James Kwabena Bomfeh.

The Writ of Summons directs the defendants to appear before court within eight days else judgement be given in their absence without further notice.

The Central Committee of the Party had opened nominations from February 6 and was expected to end yesterday.

The party also fixed Friday, March 27 and Saturday 28 for its National Delegate Congress to be held in Kumasi in the Ashanti Region to elect both national leaders and a flagbearer for this year’s elections.

The CPP has fixed a filing fee of one hundred and seventy thousand Ghana cedis for Presidential aspirants with that of the National Chairman position going for seventy thousand Ghana cedis and the National Vice- Chairperson, Treasurer, and General Secretary Aspirants also to pay fifty thousand Ghana cedis including nomination forms of two thousand Ghana cedis for each.
