The Executive Director of the Alliance for Social Equity & Public Accountability (ASEPA), Mr. Mensah Thompson has said the appointment former Ghana’s Electoral Commissioner, Mrs Charlotte Osei as UN International Electoral Commissioner is a “confirmation of the illegitimacy of her removal” and that the “government must be Worried”.

According to him in an article sighted by Awake News, “…the elevation of Charlotte Osei to this highest level in global election management brings into serious perspective the circumstances surrounding her removal as Chairperson of the Electoral Commission of Ghana”.

For Mr. Thompson, “in this midst of this well-orchestrated removal [of Charllotte Osei from office], the United Nations having thoroughly considered the facts and circumstances leading to the huge injustice done on Mrs. Osei as E.C boss of Ghana decided to remedy the situation with a much bigger appointment”

The United Nations has appointed Mrs. Charlotte Osei as an International Elections Commissioner to Afghanistan, as the South Asian country prepares to hold crucial Presidential polls in September 2019.

Mrs. Osei’s appointment was confirmed by a Presidential Decree issued by the President of Afghanistan, HE Ashraf Ghani, a development the ASEPA boss says exposes the NPP government agenda to forcecibly remove the former EC Boss from Office.

Read that he wrote:

Mensah Thompson of ASEPA writes…

The Appointment of Charlotte Osei to the U.N as Commissioner of Elections is a confirmation of the illegitimacy of her removal-Government must be Worried!

First of all let me say a big congratulations to Mrs. Charlotte Osei on her appointment to the United Nations as the Commissioner of Elections.

As the first ever female Electoral Commissioner for the Republic of Ghana it is not surprising that she has risen to the very topmost height in the management of not just National or Regional but Global Elections.

It is indeed a welcoming feat for the women of Africa and for Ghanaian women they couldn’t be any more proud.

But the elevation of Charlotte Osei to this highest level in global election management brings into serious perspective the circumstances surrounding her removal as Chairperson of the Electoral Commission of Ghana.

We cannot deny the seriousness of the allegations levelled against her however unfounded or faceless the petitioners were.

But at the end of the day, the President quickly forwarded the said petition to a panel in accordance with the law (incidentally there are two petitions for the removal of the Chief Justice still sitting on the desk of the President till date) who unanimously ruled in favour of the petitioners and quickly with the speed of light the President also accented to the removal and subsequently promoted the Appeals Court Judge on the Panel to the Supreme Court.

If you think about it critically, there is no person accused of financial malfeasance or malpractices and removed from office based on those malfeasances can even secure an interview in a major role bigger than the previous role…(it is easier for a log to enter the eye of a needle than this happening)

But in this midst of this well-orchestrated removal, the United Nations having thoroughly considered the facts and circumstances leading to the huge injustice done on Mrs. Osei as E.C boss of Ghana decided to remedy the situation with a much bigger appointment.

How else can the United Nations communicate it’s disapproval for the removal of Charlotte Osei without interfering in the democratic process of Ghana (very strategic).

But you see, even as I celebrate as a Ghanaian because of the appointment of Charlotte Osei, I am particularly worried about the image of Ghana among the comity of Nations.

The beacon of hope and the hub of rule of law have been reduced to the hub of lawlessness and embarrassments…!

And here is why…

In February this year, the African Court for Human and People’s Rights (ACHPR) reported Country Ghana to the African Union General Assembly on the Continuous violation of the African Court charter.

ASEPA as an organisation petitioned the Speaker of Parliament to summon the Minister for Foreign Affairs and the Attorney General to Parliament to answer questions on this Regional embarrassment brought on to the Country but till now no word has been heard of it.

Today, the Country Ghana and its fundamental respect for human rights and the rule of law has again been brought into another international ridicule following the appointment of Mrs.Charlottle Osei to the U.N.

At this juncture if you are a businessman or a State Official, you are going to have a hard time travelling on the Ghanaian Passport, it’s not as exciting anymore….

Those days all you heard about Ghana when you travelled was football and our utmost hospitality, today it’s about electoral violence and the utmost disrespect for fundamental human rights and the rule of law.

Now that the families of Gregory Afoko has also reported Ghana to the Amnesty International, I am wandering how low we are going to rank in the next Global Human Rights Index.

Our only hope now is that Mrs.Charlotte Osei will go all out and excel in her new role and make us all proud and bring home some good international publicity to the Country Ghana…we are gona need it very much in the coming days…

Congratulations once again to Mrs.Osei on her well deserved Appointment!
