President Nana Akfuo-Addo in his Christmas message has urged Ghanaians. to have the mentality of overcomers which he said, can be gleaned from the story of Jesus’ birth.

“The birth of Christ for me, continues to be the story of hope and trial in the midst of adversity and uncertainty. As Ghanaians, Christmas should reinforce in us, the belief that we can make it if we put our shoulders to the wheel.”

In a video posted on Facebook, the president recognised the difficulties Ghanaians face but expressed confidence that “the signs of a better and brighter tomorrow are very clear”.

He recounted the “modest” successes of his government which he said proves the Christmas story of triumph in the midst of challenges.

The President touched on macroeconomic improvements in reduced inflation, a projected GDP growth of 7.9% for 2018 which follows the 8.5% recorded in 2017.

Nana Akufo-Addo moved into his more popular social intervention and pro-poor programmes and touted the impact of his government’s free Senior High School education that has allowed 270,000 more qualified Ghanaian students to go to school.

The President also talked about the impact of his agricultural policies which has resulted in a bumper harvest and reduction in food prices.

“Our country now finds itself in a situation where it is now exporting food to its neighbours.”

He mentioned that Ghana did not import a single grain of maize in 2017 as a result of the Planting for Food and Jobs programme.

He ended with a call on Ghanaians to be responsible in celebrating Christmas.

“Let us celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ safely and responsibly and avoid doing that which will put our lives and the lives of our loved ones and others in harm’s way”.

“Let us be a blessing on the lives of those in need and through our actions, bring good cheer and glad tidings of great joy to all. I wish you all a Merry Christmas and a prosperous happy new year.”
