Coach Appiah certain about players for 2019 AFCON
Black Stars coach, Kwesi Appiah, says he has an idea of which players would constitute the core of his squad for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations slated for Egypt in June.
The 58-year-old former Al Khartoum boss has come under severe criticism following his constant invitation of new players to the national team.
But the coach is undeterred because he said he has his mind made up as to which players deserve to be in his final squad for the continent’s most prestigious competition.
Six years after the soft spoken coach first led the Stars to a fourth place during the 2013 edition of the competition in South Africa, he would be leading them again in pursuit for their first trophy in over 37 years.
The constant introduction of new players into the team has led to many raising concerns regarding the likelihood of a selection headache that the coach may face.
But the coach believes it was only to help him get a fair idea of the players he would work with during the competition and did not want to get to the point where he could easily predict which players would constitute his team.
“This is my last qualifying match, automatically I should have an idea of the players I want to take to AFCON but you should never get to the level you say this is my team, they have got a lot of games in their various clubs and anything can happen,” Coach Appiah noted.
