Cocaine swap: DSP Tehoda granted bail
An Accra High Court has granted bail to the interdicted police officer at the center of the cocaine-turned-baking soda scandal, DSP Gifty Mawuenyega Tehoda.
The embattled police officer has been in the custody of the Bureau of National Investigations (BNI) since December 29, 2011 for the role she allegedly played in the cocaine exhibit swap.
She was not in court on Tuesday when her bail application was granted.
The court on Monday ordered the national intelligence body to produce the senior police officer, who has been in remand since she entered a not guilty plea a few weeks ago, in court but initial report had it that the BNI failed to produce her.
The lawyer of the indicted police officer, Oliver Dzeble, filed an application for bail in order to secure her release since she has been in custody for close to a month now.
The news will come as a great sight of relief for anxious family members who have been waiting at the court hoping for DSP Tehoda’s freedom.
