Crime Check Foundation boss billed to speak at 2019 Amnesty International AGM

Ibrahim Oppong Kwarteng, Ambassador Extraordinaire of prisons and Executive Director of Crime Check Foundation is billed as guest speaker for the Amnesty International 2019 Annual General Meeting.

The Ambassador Extraordinaire will be speaking on the theme “Improving prison conditions in Ghana” as his foundation is known to have championed the course for reformation in the conditions of prisoners in the country.

The foundation, Crime Check through its flagship project ‘Time with the prisoner” has shown the derogatory conditions in all 44 prisons in the country and how important it is to pass the non-custodial bill to ease the congestion in there.

Also the foundation through its petty offender’s project has paid for the fines of over 400 inmates and to reintegrate them properly into the society, the foundation in partnership with Black Star midfielder, Christian Atsu launched the ex-convict reintegration project that seeks to set ex-convicts up in business as a way to ease the stigmatization and rejection they face in society.

The foundation has over the years called for the passage of the non-custodial bill which will enable petty offenders engage in community service rather than sending them to the already congested prisons.

Oppong Kwarteng is expected to share his vast experience on the living conditions of prisoners and how the Ghanaian Criminal Justice law largely favors the affluent and powerful in the society.

The Annual General Meeting will be held in Keta in the Volta Region on the 28th July 2019.

Civil societies and other stakeholders are expected to attend the meeting to discuss the way forward on how to improve the conditions in the prisons and call for the necessary reforms.
