Ghana striker Richmond Boakye Yiadom took to Twitter to express his heartbreak after the Black Stars lost 9-8 on penalties in the final of the AFCON 2015 in Bata on Sunday evening.

After scoring in Atalanta’s 3-2 away loss at Fiorentina, the 22-year-old attacker was hoping that Ghana would crown his night with a celebration of the continental title.

“HEARTBROKEN: Cruel it’s at times, football! Black Stars unlucky & losing after being the best hurts. #AFCON2015FINAL,” Boakye Yiadom tweeted.

Coach Avram Grant’s side had to settle for a silver medal at the tournament after goalkeeper Razak Brimah failed to score against fellow shot-stopper Barry Copa, who netted to give the Elephants the trophy after a 22-year wait.

Meanwhile, Ghana midfielder Emmanuel Frimpong, a former Arsenal player, has congratulated the Black Stars for their silver medal winning feat, stating on his Official Twitter page that he never even expected the four-time winners to get to the final.

“Well done Ghana man Proud Ghanaian didn’t even think we will get this far well done boys,” Frimpong tweeted.

However, Christian Atsu was named the AFCON 2015’s Most Valuable Player after exhibiting outstanding performances in the tournament.
