Desist from unauthorized use of our uniform – Military to civilians

The Ghana Armed Force is warning the general public against the use of the army uniform without authorization.

A press release signed by the Director of Public Relation, Commander A. La-Anyane, named religious leaders and artists as people often found guilty of such offenses of which is in contravention of the National Liberation Council Decree 177 of 1967.

“It must be noted that besides the illegality of the use of military uniforms, accoutrement and equipment by unauthorized persons or groups, the tendency of an unauthorized person with criminal motives to use these items to impersonate, outwit and outsmart unsuspecting public and the security apparatus to perpetuate crime cannot be underestimated,” he said.

The Military often issues these warnings to the general public about the unauthorized use of their uniform.

The statement said media reports showed increasing use of uniforms by criminals who are denting the image of the GAF.

Recently the Ojobi District Police Command arrested a middle-aged man, Kabby Kay believed to be behind the fake military camp at Gomoa Fetteh.

DSP David Fofie, the District Police Commander for Ojobi who confirmed the arrest to Citi News said the fake military personnel who were arrested identified Kabby Kay as the one who recruited them.

In 2013, two men were arrested for posing as soldiers.

Asare Darko, 50, and Daniel Azameti were separately arrested by the Ghana Military Police at Burma Camp and Spintex respectively.

President Akufo-Addo, who doubles as the Commander-In-Chief of the Ghana Armed Forces, has also asked military personnel to desist from intimidating civilians.

According to him, there have been reports about some military officers who manhandle civilians.

Akufo-Addo advised the Armed Forces to strive to maintain good relations with citizens in order to promote national integration and cohesion.

“There have been a few unfavourable media reports about the actions of a few military personnel. I am reminding you today, that your commissioning into the Armed Forces places a great responsibility on you to guard against the temptation of using the uniform to intimidate your civilian counterparts, ” he said.
