Dr Nyaho Nyaho-Tamakloe has described as “sycophancy at the highest level”, Anita Desoso’s groveling apology to former President Jerry John Rawlings at the recently-held 39th anniversary of the June 4 Uprising.

The Vice-Chair of the main opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) went down on her knees in front of a hard-faced Mr Rawlings, to plead for forgiveness on behalf of the party.

Mr Rawlings, who looked away during the whole drama, later chastised Ms Desoso for bleaching and admonished her to put a stop to such behaviour.

In Dr Nyaho-Tamakloe’s view, Ms Desoso’s action was purely sycophantic, and must be frowned upon.

“Look at what happened with NDC’s June 4th, I mean a whole person, a lady to go and kneel before somebody begging him; I mean I don’t understand it. Sycophancy.

“And what was interesting is that the person you want to plead with had his face somewhere else, he wasn’t even looking at you.

“Sycophancy at the highest level; that is what is creeping into our society and it is dangerous. … Our leaders, maybe right down from independence have been behaving the same way, they don’t want to be told: ‘You are going wrong here, come this way’, they’ll get annoyed. Right down from Nkrumah’s time…” Dr Nyaho-Tamakloe told KKB on Ghanaweb’s 21 Minutes programme.
