A Ghanaian medical practitioner based in Florida, USA, Emmanuel Arthur, has accused the National Democratic Congress government of stealing a customized car shipped into the country for his 85-year old sick mother.

According to Dr Arthur, he bought the Ford E350 for $12,000 for his sick mother, to aid her movement to the hospital due to her age which made it difficult for her to walk.

Ben Arthur, a brother of the doctor, told the media yesterday that the vehicle which arrived in May 2015, and had his name on the bill of laden as the importer, was nowhere to be found at the port after he had gone there to clear it.

Ben stated that he was informed that the vehicle had been cleared by one George Agbeshi, with the help of Medline Agency, and with support from Chairman of Confiscated Vehicles Committee at Osu Castle, Razak Mohammed.

He explained that with knowledge on where the vehicle might be, he contacted some top government officials. A meeting was arranged between him and the chairman of the Confiscated Vehicles Committee, who accepted that the car had been in their custody, but could not be found and therefore was going to make arrangement for a replacement.

But the doctor, upon hearing about the replacement of the vehicle, indicated that he was not ready to accept another vehicle other than the customized one meant for his mother.

According to Ben Arthur, the issue was brought to the notice of the deputy chief of staff who assured them of taking up the matter but nothing had been done so far.

He added that their checks had showed that the supposed George Agbeshie, who is believed to have gone for the vehicle at the port, was actually not the one, and only worked with the National Security.

A petition, signed by counsel of the aggrieved surgeon, Maurice Ampaw, was sent to the Chief of Staff to resolve the issues.

"Our humble investigation at the Port reveals that Mr. Razak has tampered with the vehicle and unlawfully cleared the said vehicle without the knowledge of the petitioner. That the petitioner calls on your high office to conduct an investigation into the conduct of Mr. Razak," the petition, which was copied to the Minister of Interior, the Commissioner of CEPS and the Chairman of the NDC, reads.
