General Secretary of the main opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketia, has alleged that the chairperson of the Electoral Commission (EC) Mrs. Jean Mensa has already prepared documents to hand over the database of the voters’ register to a Ghanaian Company.
According to him, Mrs. Jean Mensa is simply giving flimsy excuses by saying that the country is not ready to hand over its sovereignty to a foreign company to manage Ghana’s voters’ register database, just so she can gain ultimate control of the voters’ register.
Speaking on Okay FM’s Ade Akye Abia Morning Show, Hon. Asiedu Nketia claimed the EC boss has gone in for a Ghanaian owned company to take over the STL job of managing the database of the voters’ register.
“As we speak she has gone for a Ghanaian owned company and the people behind the company have their political affiliations and she wants to cancel the STL deal and hand over the key to a Ghanaian owned company to manage the database of the voters’ register without any discussion with the political parties,” he alleged.
He wondered how political parties can repose confidence in the Electoral Commission (EC's) words that no-one can rig electoral results in 2020, when the chairperson's mannerisms portray otherwise.
"You are about to do this and yet you want us to trust in the system that nobody can change anything about the election results. So any time she speaks, she opens herself up for criticisms . . . the issue she is talking about that we are a sovereign country and independent while a foreign company controls our exit and entry of our database is wrong . . .
“She has already prepared some documents to hand over the database of the voters’ register to a Ghanaian owned company and that is why she does not want Ghanaians to see. If she has a clean conscience to make the electoral process transparent, free and fair, why does she not allow us to really know what is going on, brainstorm and take decisions together?” Asiedu Nketia quizzed.
