ECG staff will lose jobs in concessionary deal – IMANI
President of policy think tank, IMANI Ghana, Franklin Cudjoe is insisting that some staff of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) will certainly be laid off in governments move to privatize the company.
Government has assured that no worker will be dismissed in the process but the IMANI Ghana boss speaking on Citi FM’s News analysis programme, The Big Issue argued otherwise.
He explained that documents covering the concessionary arrangement suggests that some of the workers will lose their jobs.
“They will lay off some workers. Part of the money from the Millennium Challenge Account is supposed to be used in doing the retrenchment and settling them…I’ve got the documents.”
But a member of the National Democratic Congress’ legal team, Abraham Amaliba who was also on the show mounted a spirited defense insisting that such will not happened.
He explained that “from the government’s perspective, John Jinapor [Deputy Minister of Power] made that abundantly clear that the retrenchment will not happen.”
