Eastern Regional branch of NDC hails the nomination of John Mahama

Koforidua, April 11, GNA- The Eastern Regional Secretariat of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has congratulated Mr John Mahama for being named as the running mate of the party's flagbearer, Professor John Evans Atta Mills. This was contained in a press statement issued by the Regional Secretary of the party, Mr Anthony Gyampoh on Thursday to the Ghana News Agency. He said the region recognizes that all the other contestants whose names came up for selection were hardworking members of the party, who are equally qualified to be nominated, but only one need to be considered.

The region therefore called on the other candidates to accept the decision in good faith and continue their good works by supporting the efforts of the party to win the December elections and save the country from further economic suffering. The region also congratulated Prof. Mills for his choice and sympathised with him for the difficult situation that he had to go through before choosing Mr Mahama, who is acceptable to all members of the party. The statement called on members of the party to close their ranks and work hard to ensure that the party wins the December elections.

In another development, the Muslim members in the party in the Region, has also expressed their support to the nomination of Mr John Mahama as running mate of the flag bearer of the NDC. Speaking to the Ghana News Agency in an interview, Alhaji Baba Kankani, an executive of the party in the region, said the choice of Prof Mills was the right one. He pledged the support of the Muslim community in the Eastern Region to Mr Mahama and urged all Muslims in the country, who are sympathetic to the NDC to work hard and ensure victory for the NDC.
