Black Stars striker, Caleb Ekuban, has apologised for missing his penalty kick which cost the Black Stars at the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Egypt, assuring of the team’s return in grand style.
The Black Stars came from a goal down to push the game into extra time after a 1-1 draw against Tunisia in their Round of 16 tie in Ismailia last Monday. However, the Stars were beaten 5-4 on penalties, with Ekuban missing his kick.
The 25-year-old Trabzonspor striker took to Twitter to apologise for his miss, saying: ‘I’m really sorry.’
The striker, who had his AFCON debut at this tournament, also said the Stars gave their all but it was just not their day to win.
“Today was not our day. We played against a strong team and the players gave their best. But it is rather disappointing that we couldn’t win via penalty shout-out.
“We will bounce back in the next tournament,” Ekuban said on Twitter.
The Carthage Eagles of Tunisia took the lead in the 73rd minute by a powerful strike from Yassine Khenissi but their substitute Rami Bedoui headed an own goal in the closing moments to force the game into extra time.
