A former Director of Elections for the National Democratic Congress Elvis Afriyie Ankrah is accusing the governing New Patriotic Party of deliberately fueling a campaign of lies in the Ashanti Region.

Afriyie Ankrah insists the party is using an old psychological trick of repeating lies about the performance of the economy to enforce falsehoods in its strongholds.

“In spite of everything, they look at us and say everything is doing well; they’ve performed better than any other government in the history of this country.”

Speaking to host Julius Caesar Anadem on the Ultimate Breakfast Show on Ultimate 106.9 FM in Kumasi he cautioned that the realities of the experiences faced by the citizenry would continue to expose the strategy.

He recounted speaking with a Kejetia Market trader who now pays GH¢109,000 on duties and transportation for importing the same plastic wares she paid GH¢23,000 to import in 2016.

“A lot of people out there have lost their capital, lost their business, some have died, some are owing banks. What is going on in this country is frightening,” he lamented.

Recounting a gamut of failed promises of the Nana Akufo Addo Administration, he insisted that the country could not suffer another four-year governance of the New Patriotic Party which he said has lost touch with the realities of the country.

“He said try me and see, we've tried and seen he is a disaster; the person he appointed to fight corruption called him the mother serpent of corruption. He said he will transform Ghana in 18 months, he will develop Ghana without borrowing but they have borrowed over GH¢620 million with nothing to show for it,” he enumerated.

Elvis Afriyie Ankrah contended that unlike the NPP which had three oil wells, the NDC with only one could show tangible projects including massive water systems, hospitals, educational institutions and ports.

“We can talk about the Ultra-Modern UG Medical Center, the BOG hospital, the Ghana Maritime hospital, the various polyclinics and district hospitals, we expanded the bed capacity by 6000.

“The water projects we did supplied water to the president hometown; upgraded teacher training institutions into colleges of education; conversion of polytechnics into universities; the expansion of Tema Ports; the Takoradi Ports; the Tema Harbor; Kotoka International Airports; Upgrading of the Ho Airport; Kumasi and Tamale Airports; Establishment of Universities of Health and Allied Science; University of Energy and National Resources; secured funding for the University of Environment and Sustainable Development; the various interchanges some of which are found in the Ashanti Region and the list goes on,” he continued to outline.

Elvis Afriyie Ankrah added that the NPP enjoyed the best of reserves including two new oil fields, the sinking, contingency and stabilization funds, the Ghana Infrastructure Investment Fund and other strategic economic buffers that cannot be fully accounted for.
