ExLA Group’s leader pays a courtesy call on Liberia’s gender minister in Monrovia

The Executive Director of ExLA Group and the Lead Convenor for the Young African Women Congress (YAWC), Daniel Osei Tuffuor in the company of some members of the YAWC Network, Liberia Chapter paid a courtesy call on the Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection for the People’s Republic of Liberia in her office in Monrovia.

In his opening statement, Mr. Osei Tuffuor expressed his heartfelt gratitude on behalf of ExLA Group to Hon. Williametta Saydee-Tarr for attending the 4th Young African Women Congress (YAWC) in Accra, Ghana last year.

He went on to outline the purpose for the visit which included an assessment of the status of women development in the country and also to look at how the organisation through the country’s chapter of the YAWC Network can collaborate effectively with the Ministry to fight sexual violence which has become a major problem for women and girls in the country.

Mrs. Saydee-Tarr who received the delegation together with her two Deputies, Hon. Alice Johnson Howard (Deputy Minister for Gender) and Hon. Hassan Karneh (Deputy Minister for Research, Policy and Planning) and the Chief of Staff for the country’s First Lady’s office Ms. Gaelle Mediem, was very impressed for such an important visit.

She hinted that despite the challenges, her Ministry is working around the clock for the progress of women and girls in the country. She also assured the delegation of her Ministry’s readiness to work with the YAWC Network, Liberia Chapter to end sexual violence in the country.

In her conclusion, Mrs. Saydee-Tarr pledged her Ministry’s support and participation in the 5th edition of Young African Women Congress (YAWC) in Accra in July this year.
