The Ghana Statistical Service (GSS) will release the final results of the 2010 Population and Housing Census today after two postponements.
The Service earlier scheduled to release the final figures on March 31, 2012, but postponed it to April 30 which was also cancelled. The GSS blamed the postponements on what it described as initial field challenges that affected the final data collection process.
In a statement signed by Mr. Elvis Adanyina, a Director of the Service and copied to Citifmonline.com, it was explained that the GSS had completed the final phase of the data processing.
It said in part, “we have now successfully completed the process.” The Service released provisional figures in February last year which put the population of Ghana at 24.2 million.
According to the provisional figures announced in February last year, the national population represents a 28.1% increase over the 2000 population figure of 18.9 million, meaning that the country’s population has been growing at an annual rate of 2.4% since 2000.**
