It’s no doubt that, in Nigeria the household name from Ghana there is Sarkodie and this could be mainly because he has lots of features with Nigerian musicians and his award nominations in prestigious award schemes like MTV MaMa, BET, etc.
He’s featured Banky W, Korello Bello, Davido, Patoranking, Runtown, Wizkid, Phyno, Flavour, Ice Prince and several other Nigerian artistes. He’s the only Ghanaian who has featured the most Nigerian artistes and has his name in their awards nominations, every year.
The brand Sarkodie is very visible in Nigeria and is one artiste that you are sure to hear his songs play on radio if Nigerians decide to play any Ghanaian songs.
With some of our acts not getting any reaction when they performed in Nigeria at the Zylofon/Menzgold Naija Invasion concert, the debate on Social media, has been whether the Nigerians intentionally decided not to cheer up our superstars like Shatta Wale, Stonebwoy, etc when they were on stage when they were performing or they just simply didn’t know their songs, reason why they couldn’t vibe with them.
We take a look at this old video of Sarkodie performing in Nigeria sometime last year at the SoundCity MVP Awards and he was cheered on by the Nigerians.
So, we can say, the Nigerians don’t hate our artistes completely, they probably have not heard enough of our songs, so we have a lot of work to do to make sure our songs penetrate deeply in that country.
