Accra, May 8, GNA - Mr Simon Dornoo, Managing Director of Ghana Commercial Bank (GCB), at the weekend stressed the commitment of the financial entity to forge partnership with the media to promote transparency in its operations.
"As Ghana's largest bank, GCB has always endeavoured to maintain good relations with the media," he said at a soiree organised by the bank for journalists in Accra. "By maintaining good relations with the media, we mean GCB will be accessible and we will provide timely and accurate information to help fulfil your mission and objectives," he said. Mr Dornoo observed that GCB, which is regarded as a national bank is an embodiment of the aspirations of the people and counts on the media to ensure that it continue to earn the trust and confidence of customers and the public as it strives towards achieving a pre-eminent status in Ghana's banking industry.
This, he said, could be facilitated through the feedback journalists offer the bank in regard to its activities. Unveiling his mission and vision for the bank, when he assumed office on March 4, this year, he said: "The sim ple answer I gave was to win in this highly competitive banking industry." "This means improving customer satisfaction, creating a nurturing environment for employees to develop their careers, achieving operational excellence and contributing positively to the development of our communities. "By doing all these we should deliver superior returns to the owners of the business in order to attract investments for future growth." The bank later donated 2,500 Ghana cedis towards the 2009 annual awards night of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA). Mr Ransford Tetteh, President of the GJA thanked GCB for the offer and said it would used to sponsor the Small and Medium Enterprises segment of the awards. He assured management of the bank that journalists would continue to play their watchdog role by criticising the operations of the corporate body constructively. Mr Tetteh called on the bank to assist investors in the media landscape to grow from cottage industries to bigger business entities. Alhaji Harruna Attah, Publisher and Editor of Accra Mail, an Accra-based newspaper also called on GCB to assist media entrepreneurs to grow their businesses to a higher dimension. 8 May 10
