Ghana Association of South Florida Donates to Nayagnia Community

Nayagnia (U/E), Aug 17, GNA - Mr. Jonathan Simon Aniwene, an opinion leader in the Kassena Nankana District, has appealed to people of the three northern

regions resident outside the country to support the development of the area. He said this when the Ghana Association of South Florida in the United States donated 2,001 Ghana cedis to the Nayagnia community to assist the area which

was hit by flood in 2007. Mr Aniwene said if they could contribute to the development of the area it would help move the regions forward and noted that other Ghanaians were

contributing to the development of their hometowns. Presenting the money to the chief and people of Nayagnia, the Queen of the Ghana Association of South Florida, Ms Adiza Bucary, said members of the

association were touched when they heard about flood that destroyed property. She said the money could have been sent earlier but was delayed due to certain problems. Ms Bucary, who is also a gender activist, said as part of measures to help fight Female Gentile Mutilation in the three northern regions, a women's group called

"Ghana Mayen" had been formed in the United States and had drawn strategies to help address the problem together with gender activists in Ghana. Mr. Ben Roger, the Chairman of the Development Committee of Nayagnia, thanked the association for the donation. He said one of the major challenges facing the area was education, adding that the community had put up a school and intends to build a library and appealed to

individuals and non-governmental organizations to assist.
