Former Chief of Defence Staff, Brigadier General Joseph Nunoo-Mensah has lambasted the two major political parties - New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) - for plunging the progress of the country.

According to him, Ghana is sinking and losing massively in all aspects of the economy due to the selfish nature of both political parties.

Speaking at the 3rd Revolutionary Lecture Series to mark June 4 celebrations on the theme “Developing a National Character for Sustainable Good Governance”, Brig. General Nunoo-Mensah said the NPP and NDC are only interested in fighting amongst themselves at the expense of the country.

Nunoo-Mensah argued that neither the NPP nor the NDC has the interest of Ghana at heart, a reason they keep thwarting the progress of the country.

“This is the sad aspect of our life; we behave as if we’re fighting for ourselves and not for a country called Ghana... But it’s always been like this for years...Our parents were uneducated people but they were honest people” he mentioned.

“We end up fighting every day; NDC, NPP, when there are issues to settle. But today we’re behaving as if we’re not Ghanaians and this country is losing because we don’t work together as a people. We’re always fighting amongst ourselves”, Nunoo-Mensah added.

He further noted that “What makes me sad is that the two major parties don’t care about Ghana. And I mean it”.

Saddened by the status of the country, the outspoken personality entreated both NPP and NDC to team up and work together for the country to move from its underdeveloping stage to a developed country.
