Ghanaians have descended heavily on Asamoah Gyan for making a U-turn on his decision to retire from the Black Stars.
On Monday, May 20, 2019, Gyan announced his retirement from the national team.
The Kayserispor striker noted in a long and touching letter that he was recusing himself from any potential selection for the upcoming African Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Egypt if he is denied the captaincy at the tournament.
He noted that that he "could not pretend to be happy" over how unfortunate he believes he has been treated by sections of the media."
Due to that, President Akufo-Addo on Tuesday, May 21, 2019, spoke with Gyan over his decision. Following Akufo-Addo's call, Gyan has swiftly rescinded his decision stating that he is available for selection.
But some Ghanaians have taken a strong swipe at Gyan for the said U-turn.
