Ghanaians urged to plant trees to protect environment

Mr Samuel Prosper Yeboah, the Nsawam Adoagyiri Municipal Coordinator of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) has encouraged Ghanaians to plant trees in their communities to help protect the environment.

He urged the people in the Nsawam/Adoagyiri Municipality to stop constructing buildings on water ways to prevent flooding when it rained.

Mr Yeboah made the call at the observation of the International Day for Disaster Reduction, at Asiawkrom, near Nsawam.

He said trees served as wind brakes and also protected buildings from distraction during rainstorms.

He said the trees also helped to beautify the environment and advised the people to desist from felling trees along the river banks and washing their cloths in the rivers around them.

Mr Yeboah advised the people against open defecation to avoid cholera outbreak in the area.

Nana Opare Odei, the Chief of Okubeyeyie, near Nsawam who chaired the function, advised the people to join the Government in the monthly sanitation day exercise to help clean the environment.
