Striker Asamoah Gyan has blamed the media as part of the reasons he did not enjoy his reign as skipper of the Black Stars.

He explained that he became the target of false and manufactured stories to make him unpopular during his seven years reign as the skipper of the national team.

Speaking in an interview with Asempa FM, the 33-year-old arrowhead said despite succeeding several successive captains none had very torturous tenure like he did.

"Too many agendas by some journalists accounted for a lot of the things that happened.

"People manufactured several stories against me simply because I was made the captain of the team.

According to him, his tenure never saw peace due to the constant criticism and fabrication of stories by the media who must be blamed for his woes.

"Many captains have come and gone and so why only me? I did not have my peace of mind during my seven-year reign, the General Captain said.

"I didn't enjoy my captaincy. Partly, I will also blame the media for what happened," he told Asempa FM

"People manufactured several stories against me simply because I was made the captain of the team.

He was also surprised by the level of hypocrisy in the system because the same people who criticized him pretend to like him once they see him in public.

"We are not honest. We say things and when they see you they pretend they like you." Gyan noted.
