The Ghana Police Service apprehended three individuals on Sunday, June 2, 2024, at Ofaakor near Kasoa in the Central Region for unauthorized possession of a firearm.
The detainees included the National Democratic Congress Parliamentary Candidate for Awutu Senya East, Phyllis Naa Koryoo Okunnor, alongside Mustapha Mohammed and Abdul Aziz Musah.
They were intercepted in a Honda CRV saloon car with registration number GX-2044-19, close to the Electoral Commission's office at Ofaakor.
The authorities recovered a pump-action gun and four rounds of ammunition from the vehicle.
The trio are currently aiding the police with their investigations.
This arrest followed an outbreak of violence at the Electoral Commission's office in Kasoa, which resulted in injuries to four individuals.
The violence, involving members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP), began around 5 am due to a dispute over voter transfer procedures.
Ato Koomson, the son of the incumbent MP Mavis Hawa Koomson, was critically injured during the clash and has been admitted to the 37 Military Hospital in Accra.
Additionally, three NDC members sustained injuries and are receiving treatment at the Kasoa Polyclinic.
