House of Chiefs congratulates Kufuor

THE National House of Chiefs has congratulated Mr John Agyekum Kufuor on his election as the President of Ghana.

“ On this auspicious and momentous occasion of your glorious and well-deserved election to the high office of President of the Republic of Ghana, we of the National House of Chiefs, on behalf of the chiefs and people of Ghana , and on our own behalf, wish sincerely to extend , with the greatest pleasure and unalloyed joy, our heartfelt congratulations to your Excellency,” the House said.

This was contained in a statement signed by the Acting President, Naa (Dr.) Puore Puobe Chiir in Kumasi.

The statement described the election of Mr Kufuor as one of the most heart-warming victories that the country has won in its long and chequered history.

“ We realise, Your Excellency, without the slightest illusion, that the task ahead of you is herculean and the path so tortuous and labyrinthine. We, however, have the greatest and firmest belief that with the pursuit of the right policies, coupled with hand work and determination, your administration will be crowned with the desired results,” it said.

The statement, which described Mr Kufuor as a disciplined and consummate statesman, called on him to bring to bear on his administration the virtues of honesty, integrity and transparency.


“ In his connection, we need not stress the point that proper accountability should be the cornerstone of your administration,” it said.

The statement pledged the loyalty of the National House of Chiefs to President Kufuor in his arduous task of nation building.”

It said while pledging the House’s support for the success of the new government, the chiefs called for God’s guidance for President Kufuor.

• Nehemia Owusu-Achiaw, reports from Kumasi that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Health Workers Association of the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital has congratulated Mr J.A. Kufuor and his vice, Alhaji Aliu Mahama, for assuming the political responsibility and economic management of the country.

The association also commended the National Reform Party (NRP), the Convention People’s Party (CPP), the United Ghana Movement (UGM) and the People’s National Convention (PNC) for their support to Mr Kufuor in the presidential run-off.

In a congratulatory message signed by Mr R. Sarfo-Mensah and Dr G. Boakye, chairman and vice-chairman respectively , the association said its members are ever prepared to offer their services and professional advice and expertise on health issues to help move the health sector and the nation forward.


In another message, the Asante Congress has congratulated President Kufuor and the NPP on their resounding victory in the December general elections.

The Mfantsiman Council in Ashanti has, on its part, congratulated Mr Kufuor on his election as the President of Ghana.

Speaking at a news conference at Kumasi, Okromansa Nana Kobina Aggrey, head of the Fanti Community in Ashanti, said President Kufuor’ s victory is a victory for all Ghanaians.

He appealed to the government to examine the operations of the Forestry Commission to realise the objectives for which it was established.
