The Vice President and Flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has reiterated his stance that as Vice President, he is only assisting the president in implementing his vision.
Answering a question about why he is not implementing his vision now as Vice President, Dr. Bawumia stated that, as Vice President, he only assists the president in implementing his vision and has limited authority.
However, as president, he will have full authority to implement the policies outlined.
To shed more light on the limited role of a vice president, Dr. Bawumia asked whether the budget recently approved by Parliament was his or the president's.
"The budget that was approved by Parliament went to Parliament in the name of the president, so it is the president's budget. It is not my budget," he said.
"That is why I have outlined my own plans and my own vision, which I can implement when I become President with full authority in three months, inshaa Allah."
Dr Bawumia also asked that if he, who has never been president before, is being asked to implement his vision now as Vice President, then what about former President Mahama, who, even as a former President, wants to come back?
"Why didn't he do all those things he wants to come back and do when he was president? He has been president before with full authority, and he could have done all the things he is mentioning now.
"I have never been president before, and I have never had full authority before. That is why I have come up with my own new ideas."
