The National Democratic Congress (NDC) Parliamentary candidate for Ablekuma North, Ewurabena Aubynn, has condemned her competitor, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Parliamentary candidate, Nana Akua Afriyie, over what she describes as Afriyie's strong sense of entitlement.
Her comments come after Nana Akua Afriyie vowed to persist relentlessly in asserting her victory in the constituency’s parliamentary elections.
Speaking at the collation center in Accra on Wednesday, January 8, 2025, Afriyie expressed her unwavering commitment to ensuring that the truth prevails in the electoral process.
“We have 281 polling stations in Ablekuma North. It was left with 62, and by the grace of God, truth will stand. In the first place, I appreciate the justice system that we should go and collate, and I am firm. I want to say on record that I will fight till the end because I know I won,” she declared.
Afriyie highlighted her meticulous preparation, stating, “I have all my 281 pink sheets scanned. I did it immediately before the gentleman who came and tore everything from the EC.”
“…Gradually, we are left with three polling stations. By the grace of God, I am leading comfortably, and that is the fear.”
However, in an interview with Joy News, Ewurabena Aubynn described the NPP Parliamentary candidate as a person with questionable behavior and an overly aggressive political style.
"That woman, for want of a better word, I don't want to call her a con woman. We live in the constituency; she has been with us for years, so we know her games and how she doesn't accept defeat quite easily. She feels that sense of entitlement. If you followed our campaign, you would realize how aggressive she was, even with the placement of signboards in the constituency. So she is used to misbehaving. I wouldn’t take her commentary seriously."
Ewurabena confidently stated that she had won the election.
"She lost the election. She has been an MP before; she was in Parliament. People have experienced her, and they don't want her. They need a change. It has been the NPP for 28 years. We need development. And so, this time around, the majority of the electorate in Ablekuma North voted for change, and they voted massively for Mahama and Ewurabena Aubynn. If she claims she won the election, why did she go around the constituency taking back gifts and goodies given to entice people? At what point did she realize she had won with some 400 votes when she didn’t even have pink sheets?"
Meanwhile, the Returning Officer for the Ablekuma North Constituency, Vincent Obeng, has announced his decision to discontinue the collation of results in the area.
He informed the Electoral Commission (EC) to find a replacement, citing frustrations encountered during the collation process on January 8, 2025.
Obeng revealed that, out of seven polling stations, results from four had already been collated, leaving just three remaining.
I don't want to call my opponent a con woman, but we live with her and are familiar with her games. She has a sense of entitlement—Ewurabena Aubynn #ElectionHQ pic.twitter.com/MNstHmPBsA
