Head of Joy News’ investigative desk, Manasseh Azure Awuni has doubted the authenticity of rumours making rounds that government is working to get Multimedia to rescind its decision to show a new documentary.
The documentary is an investigative piece by Manasseh Azure Awuni into the secret operations of a pro NPP training camp for vigilantes in the capital.
The investigative piece has been described as one that will shock many particularly with the details that will be revealed.
After the public announcement of the airing of the documentary at 8:30 pm today, Thursday March 7, 2019, it is widely being speculated that high-powered government delegation is engaging the station to compel them not to air the piece.
However, in a post on his social media Facebook page Thursday afternoon, Manasseh Azure Awuni disclosed, “I’m not aware of any pressure from the government on us not to show the undercover investigation. It’s on at 8.30 tonight on #JoyNews.”
The NPP government led by Akufo-Addo has pledged to end the phenomenon that many fear may grow into a monster that will be difficult to deal with in the near future.
President Akufo-Addo during his State of the Nation Address declared a zero tolerance on political party vigilantism and tasked both NPP and NDC to discuss and set out a roadmap to disband their vigilantes.
“I want to use this platform of this message to make a sincere passionate appeal to the leaders of the two main political parties in our country NPP and NDC to come together as soon as possible, preferably next week to agree on appropriate measures to bring an end to this unacceptable phenomenon of vigilantism in our body of politics,” Akufo-Addo asserted.
He added, ”I have asked the leadership of the NPP to extend an invitation to the leaders of the NDC for such a meeting, the security services of the country will be on standby to assist this meeting. If political disbandment by the parties is not feasible then I will initiate legislation in the matter”.
Despite the President’s stance against the canker, his political party, NPP, keeps getting into the news for engaging in seemingly contrary activities.
Some weeks ago, a letter leaked to the media indicated that the NPP in Upper West was making preparations to train some of their members in the region in at the military training camp.
Subsequently, they have been hit by this new piece which strengthens the stance of some people that they are not committed to disbanding their militia.
