Songstress Becca has said she deserves approbation for the successes she has chalked in the music industry for the past 14 years.

In an interview with MzGee on TV3’s New Day, Friday, Becca remarked that for her to have stayed relevant from 2007 till date is no mean achievement.

“I manage it quite well and it clearly tells me that people who say I’ve not released a song in a long time actually do not follow Becca and are clearly not Becca fans because I do release songs,” she said in her response to how she has been able to maintain her relevance in a male-dominated space that is in itself not rosy.

“I think I’ve released songs almost every year for about 14 years. If you check the streams and downloads I have every month or quarterly, you’ll be astonished. Most of the awards I’ve been nominated for are not even schemes in Ghana; they’re outside and do not pay attention to only how much popular your songs are but streams, YouTube views… I think I’m doing pretty well and I do deserve any award I’m nominated for.

“During this 14 years of being consistent, I think I need to be applauded. Not to blow my own trumpet but I have tried as much as possible not just to keep my name as Becca in the music industry but to keep the name of Ghana music industry for a very long time and out of Ghana as well,” she added.

Becca was introduced to the mainstream by Kiki Banson in 2007 with the release of her debut single ‘You Lied To Me’ which featured Kwabena Kwabena.Since then, she has released other masterpieces which have catapulted her brand to a higher pedestal.

Aside having international collaborations with well-known acts including Hugh Masekela, 2face Idibia, M.I and Uhuru, she has won several awards and earned many nominations. The schemes include the National Youth Achievers Award, Ghana Music Awards, 4Syte TV Music Video Awards and Kora Award.

In January, she disclosed she would end her “years as a recording artiste” by end of year to focus on her several investments and spend more time with her family.

“Each of these plans is backed up with cutting edge blueprint. As a professional, you need to know when to start and when to let go. I will be making substantive investment in a worthy and talented artist when I draw the curtains. But between now and the next 12 months, OMG it’s going to be smash hits after smash hits,” her post on social media read.
