National Women’s Organiser of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Dr. Hanna Louisa Bisiw, has rubbished reports making rounds on social media that former President John Mahama was not welcomed in the Western North region, where he is on a working visit.

Some pictures circulating on social media on Wednesday that sought to mock the former president indicated that residents of the region ignored Mr Mahama when he arrived in the region.

But Dr. Bisiw, a former appointee of John Mahama, who is part of the former president’s entourage has denied such cliams.

Speaking to King Nicholas on Inside Politics on Power 97.9 FM, the NDC women leader stated, the pictures that have been splashed on social media are not about Mr Mahama’s visit. She said they had been circulated to divert attention from Mr. Mahama’s visit and his message for the people.

She noted, the tour had been very successful and added that the indigenes of Western North Region were happy to see the former president, who is also the flagbearer of the NDC.

"Whoever says President Mahama had nobody to follow or welcome him is a liar. The unscrupulous persons behind that are only diverting attention,” Dr. Bisiw stated and disclosed the crowd that welcomed the former president in the towns they visited was huge.

The former deputy Minister of Agric continued, “In fact, I am part of President Mahama’s team and I can tell you that people have been lining up on principal streets of the towns to catch a glimpse of him and welcome us. Some of the women kept shouting ‘we can’t wait to see you as the president again’… My brother, some of the residents go down on their knees to tell president Mahama they want him back.”

To her, the ruling New Patriotic Party has been shocked at the manner in which Mr. Mahama was welcomed on the first day of his visit hence their “diversionary tactics.”

She said they could not control the crowd at Humegyebre, a town in the region on Wednesday afternoon when Mr. Mahama’s team arrived there, adding that it is an indication that Akufo-Addo has failed them.

“The farmers who could not hide their joy kept calling president Mahama ‘saviour, saviour’,” Madam Bisiw added as she emphasised that the people are fed up with the bad agriculture policies for the “poor farmers” who have been paying for fertilizers that were free under the Mahama administration.

Western North Visit

The Flagbearer of the NDC John is on a two-day working visit to the Western North Region.

While on the tour, President Mahama has been extending his gratitude to delegates and supporters of the party for their support and resounding endorsement in February’s presidential primaries.

He has been interacting with communities and paying courtesy calls on the chiefs and elders of the area.

He has been meeting and interacting with cocoa and other crop farmers, traders, and other community members.

He has been assuring the residents that his next government will continue with many road projects commenced and others awarded on contract by his previous government that have been stopped and abandoned by the Akufo-Addo government.

This is because many communities in the Western North Region are currently faced with deplorable road conditions that are affecting not only the transportation of cocoa and other farm produce.

From the Western North Region, President Mahama will proceed to the Ahafo Region, after a day’s break to attend the 7th John Evans Atta Mills Commemorative Lecture.
