Interior Ministry reviews curfew on Tafo, 3 other towns

The Ministry of Interior has on the advice of the Ashanti Regional Security Council, reviewed the curfew hours imposed on Tafo Township, in the Ashanti Region effective March 23, 2016.

A statement from the Interior Ministry indicated that the curfew starts from 8 pm to 4 am. A conflict over a piece of cemetery land in February this year, led to clashes between some Muslim youth and the youth of the area backed by the Tafo Traditional Council.

The incident led to the death of one Muslim. A statement signed by the Minister of Interior urged residents of the area to “use non-violent means to channel their energies into ensuring peace.”

“The minister of the Interior has on the advice of the Ashanti Regional Security Council and by Executive Instrument reviewed the curfew hours imposed on Old Tafo Township from 8:000pm to 4am effective Wednesday, 23rd March, 2016,” the statement noted.

Curfew in Alavanyo, Bunkprugu, Bimbilla reviewed The Ministry also reviewed curfew hours in the Alavanyo/Nkonya townships in the Volta Region, as well as Bunkprugu and Bimbilla.

In the Alavanyo/Nkonya area, the curfew now starts from from 9:00pm to 6:00am, while that of Bunkprugu is from 8:00pm to 6:00pm effective March 22, 2016. That of Bimbilla is also now from 6:00pm to 6:00am.
