The Minority Leader, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, took a swipe at the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) over their massive loss of seats in the just-ended December 7, 2024, parliamentary election when the House reconvened on Monday, December 16, 2024.
While addressing the House on its makeshift floor at the Dome of the Accra International Conference Centre (AICC), Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, after wishing the Members of Parliament who lost their re-election bid well, taunted the NPP over the number of seats they lost.
He said that the NPP's loss of over 50 seats in the House is an eye-opener to the political class in the country that Ghanaians cannot be taken for granted.
"I'm proud to announce that we were able to snatch over 50 parliamentary seats from our colleagues at the divide. We took more than 50 parliamentary seats from the ruling NPP. Mr. Speaker, we have clearly shown that it is possible to reduce the NPP Majority to ‘nkoko kitikiti’. Indeed, ‘nkoko kitikiti’ is possible.
"Right Honourable Speaker, the 9th Parliament will be unique and interesting. It would be a contest of ideas between the super NDC Majority and the mini-micro NPP Minority," he said.
He added, "What happened in the December 7 polls was a revolution. The people's revolution, what I call it. It was a revolt against a government that is obstinate, insensitive, high-handed and dismissive of public opinion. It was a revolt against the government that called people with dissenting views names such as detractors, cynics, and naysayers."
