Jastar ‘kidnaper’ gets 5-year jail term

The 22-year-old irate customer of Jastar Motors who kidnapped the daughter of a radio presenter at Nkoranza in the Brong Ahafo region has been given a five-year jail term by a Circuit court in Techiman .

Eric Otu kidnapped the daughter of Jerryson FM presenter Emmanuel Anyaba in an attempt to retrieve his money from the Jastar microfinance company which owns the radio station. He had invested GHC15,000 in the beleaguered financial firm.

He reportedly resorted to kidnapping the three-year-old after several attempts to retrieve his investment had failed. The company has been unable to resettle its customers who deposited their monies with them.

Reading her judgment Friday, Her Lordship Joan Eyi King said she was considerate with her verdict because of the health status of the convict’s grandmother who was fond of him.

The grandmother, Ama Nyarko, who was in court to witness the judgment said the sentencing of her grandson is a big blow to her.

“If the court had fined him it would have been better than sentencing him to five years. He is the one who does everything for me because I have a problem with my eye,” she bemoaned.
