Former Asante Kotoko captain Joe Hendricks has made an astonishing revelation on how the club lost the maiden CAF Confederation Cup finals to arch rivals Hearts of Oak in 2005.

According to Joe Hendricks, he was stripped off the captaincy momentarily ahead of the toss for the commencement of the game in Kumasi.

He says he was warned if he led the team ahead of the toss, they will lose, so he had to hand over the arm band to Charles Taylor for the toss, which they lost and eventually losing the game too.

“On the day of the Confederations Cup Final with Hearts of Oak, in Kumasi Sarfo Gyamfi called to inform me that Asante Kotoko will lose the match if I kept the band for the toss. Charles Taylor reluctantly took the band, lost the toss and we lost the match,” he told Sikka Sports.

The Porcupine Warriors were beaten by the Phobians 8-7 on penalties after the two legged finale ended in a 2-2 draw.

Asante Kotoko are in a hunt for their first ever CAF Confederation Cup after reaching the group stages of the competition this year.

The team will travel to Zambia for the final group game against Zesco on Sunday, with a win securing passage to the quarter finals.
