The Ghana Police Service has attributed the alleged fraudulent recruitment of Police personnel into the service to improved conditions of service under the Single Spine Salary Structure as well as the increase in unemployment in the country.

The Police Service, however, added that the increase in the demand of many people wanting to join the service is because it has become very attractive in every sense and most especially because people want to serve their nation.

“People also want to enjoy life as police officers, at least Single Spine is quite juicy for the police, it has improved our living standards and people are also on top of everything looking for jobs,” the acting Public Relations Officer of the Ghana Police Service, DSP Cephas Arthur told Citi News.

“The Police have become very attractive; people want to contribute their quota to the provision of security of the country,” he added.

“So they are all for anything that would give them the opportunity also to work. This may be some of the reasons why people could fall so low as to try to recruit fraudulently.”

Three members of a police recruitment syndicate were arrested for fraudulently recruiting 105 prospective recruits into the service.

DSP Arthur said investigations are ongoing to ensure that similar incidents are averted.**
