The Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL) has assured the travelling public that Kotoka International Airport remains unaffected by the global IT outage currently impacting some airports and airlines worldwide.

In a statement released by GACL management on July 19, 2024, it was confirmed that all flights at Kotoka International Airport are operating as scheduled.

The management emphasised that they are closely monitoring the situation and will provide updates as necessary to ensure smooth travel for passengers.

“For the record, Kotoka International Airport has NOT been impacted so far, and all flights are operating as scheduled.

“Management will continue to monitor the situation closely and provide updates to the travelling public as necessary,” the statement read.

Travellers are encouraged to stay informed through official channels for any further developments.

A global Microsoft Windows failure, possibly linked to a CrowdStrike software update, caused widespread disruptions to critical services worldwide.

The outage, which began on July 18 and continued into July 19, affected emergency services, banks, airports, and broadcasters.

The banking sector was particularly hard hit, with online banking services disrupted globally, causing frustration among customers.

Airports around the world have reported grounded flights, leading to significant travel chaos.

In the US, 911 services in Oregon have been impacted, and the UK’s Southern Railway has experienced widespread IT issues.

Microsoft is actively working to resolve the issue, with improvements in availability being reported.

The cause of the outage is linked to a defect in a CrowdStrike update, which has since been identified and isolated.
